Seminars

Managment Course“Understanding the Learning Styles” – Understanding your learning style and the styles of those with whom you relate can positively affect your life in many ways! This knowledge gives you a greater appreciation for your own uniqueness and that of others. It will also allow you to relate to others with greater effectiveness and will give you freedom to be the person you were designed to be!

Learning styles specialist, Cynthia Ulrich Tobias, M.Ed., defines learning styles as those “natural, inborn strengths and characteristics” that each individual possesses. Our learning style affects how we understand and organize information. It helps us decide what makes sense and what is important to us.

Each seminar participant is given the opportunity to complete Dr. Anthony Gregorc’s Style Delineator, a well-constructed profiling instrument, to determine their dominant learning style. According to Dr. Gregorc, individuals generally are dominant in any of the four styles: concrete sequential, abstract random, abstract sequential, and concrete random. The easy-to-understand explanation of each learning style given in this seminar provides participants with valuable insights.

“Understanding the Learning Styles” is crucial for those who are interested in learning how to better relate to others in everyday life — whether it be at home, school, work or any other place where you interact with people. It truly has the power to “revolutionize” your life!

Reflective Listening“Developing Healthy Communication Skills” – We believe that every one of us longs for someone to listen and understand our feelings without judging us, trying to fix our problem or giving us unwanted advice. It is our desire to teach and train individuals to use reflective listening techniques in order to maintain healthy communication in their daily interactions.

Reflective listening is a combination of two creative processes:

  1. An understanding of what the speaker is attempting to say through words and body language
  2. Reflecting those feelings and thoughts back to the speaker through words, tone of voice, body posture, and gestures so the speaker knows that he or she is being understood

By attending this enlightening and interactive seminar you will be equipped with valuable tools that will enable you to maintain healthy communication in your daily interactions:

  • A clear explanation of your learning style and how it affects your interaction with others
  • An understanding of how specific “stumbling blocks” interfere with healthy communication
  • A thorough examination of the techniques necessary to become an effective communicator
  • An opportunity to practice these listening techniques in a supportive environment

Reflective Listening Seminar at a Church“God’s People Relating to Others” – This seminar provides an in-depth look at the skill of reflective listening and examines the ten most common “stumbling blocks” to effective communication. It provides a careful study of the skills necessary to become an effective communicator, including rephrasing a question into a statement, the various ways to respond to the speaker’s question, and composing a statement that reflects either the facts or the feelings presented by the speaker.

“Listening begins with an attitude. If I choose to believe that every person I encounter is made in God’s image; that their thoughts and feelings are important, then I am prepared to listen. If I think that the world revolves around me; that my ideas are all that counts, then why should I listen to anyone else? Many people don’t have a communication problem, they have an attitude problem.”

~ Dr. Gary Chapman

This training goes beyond the 2-hour introduction workshop by delving more deeply into reflective listening and by providing opportunity for practical application of the skills taught. It is geared for the participant who truly desires to use reflective listening to share God’s love with others in their daily interactions.

The first part of this seminar consists of the 2-hour Learning Styles presentation. Please scroll down/up to read the detailed description of what is included in “Understanding the Learning Styles.”

This seminar is designed to be interactive and works best with 10-30 participants.

Reflective Listening“Interacting Effectively in the Workplace” – Unclear communication in the workplace can be a primary cause of stress and decreased motivation among employees, often leading to lower productivity and net company profits.

For these and other reasons, effective communication is especially critical in the workplace. Not only is it important as managers and coworkers relate to one another but also as employees relate to clients, outside vendors and representatives.

Listening reflectively, handling conflict and solving problems effectively are extremely valuable tools in a business environment. When managers and coworkers at any level of an organization communicate effectively, a positive business culture and quality of life on the job is established.

“I wish I had spent more time listening. What about you, are you listening to the significant people in your life? Listening is a ministry. It communicates love. When you care enough to listen, you validate another person’s worth. To whom do you need to listen?”

~ Dr. Gary Chapman
