Interacting Effectively in the Workplace

What is reflective listening?

Reflective listening is a combination of two creative processes:

  1. A real understanding of what the speaker is attempting to say through words and body language
  2. Reflecting those feelings and thoughts through words, tone of voice, body posture, and gestures so that the speaker knows he/she is being understood

Reflective listening focuses on the speaker's emotions and concerns rather than on the listener's experiences and advice.

The only sure way to know what someone means is to reflect his words and feelings back to him for clarification.

Why is reflective listening so important?

Effective communication is especially critical in the workplace. Not only is it important as managers and coworkers relate to one another but also as employees relate to clients, outside vendors and representatives.

Listening reflectively, handling conflict and solving problems effectively are extremely valuable tools in a business environment. When managers and coworkers at any level of an organization communicate effectively, a positive business culture and quality of life on the job is established.

People to People trains employees to use reflective listening techniques in daily on-the-job interactions. Be prepared for insights and breakthroughs that will improve your communication with managers and coworkers.

What this workshop training can do for you!

This interactive workshop provides:

  • A clear explanation of your learning style and how it affects your on-the-job relationships
  • An understanding of how specific "stumbling blocks" interfere with effective communication
  • A close look at reflective listening and assertive message techniques and an understanding of why they are critical to effective communication
  • An opportunity to practice reflective listening and assertiveness techniques in a supportive environment

Unclear communication in the workplace can be a primary cause of stress and decreased motivation among employees, often leading to lower productivity and net company profits.

Get results! Be someone who communicates clearly and with confidence. Be prepared for insights and breakthroughs that will improve your communication.

People to People offers an eight-hour workshop (two 4-hour sessions) designed to equip coworkers/employees at any level of the organization with valuable tools that will enable them to become more assertive and effective in their careers. Join us for two days of learning… and fun!

SESSION ONE

First Day (4 hours)

Participants will discover their own unique learning style (based on the four styles as researched and defined by Dr. Anthony Gregorc), discover the learning styles of other workshop participants, and gain an understanding of how it affects their relationship and communication with others. Stumbling blocks to effective communication will be examined and reflective listening techniques will be introduced.

SESSION TWO

Second Day (4 hours)

The examination and practice of reflective listening techniques will continue. Participants will learn how to compose the three-part assertive message. Opportunity will be provided for application and practice of those techniques.
